Catkins, Silk tassel bush plant

Silk tassel bush catkins

More formally known as Garrya elliptica. The first picture is of catkins on a bush in a private garden. The others are from a bush beside a gated entrance of the University on Wulfruna Street.

  1. Hello mine are about the same stage, I have just published some photos of Hazel catkins that are out now. Do you know what the female flowers on a Garrya look like, I cant say I have ever noticed them.

  2. Apparently it is one of those species where the male and female flowers grow on different plants. The female flowers are smaller and less showy – presumably garden centres are less likely to stock them.

Nice pictures of the hazel (and other) catkins. They too are out here as well, but not yet as showy as yours.
