Common blue damselfly, one of two which were sparring with each other this lunchtime over Compton Park pond. There was another of the same species by the canal near Meccano Bridge, where there was also a quick glimpse of a pair of another species, mating in flight: they might have been small red damselflies.

Swan family, West Park
Pair of swans with their three cygnets swimming by the boat landing stage on West Park lake, dipping their heads in the water for food.
UPDATE: since these pictures were taken on Thursday, the number of cygnets has fallen to two. Goslings and ducklings continue to have the same numbers as when I first spotted them. There are also at least three sets of coot chicks, with at least eleven chicks altogether.
