Lady’s smock flowers on Doxey Marshes. The plant is one of the preferred foods of orange tip butterflies. There was one nearby when I took these pictures. It was fluttering just in front of me for some time but headed off, flying fast, as soon as I reached for my camera.

Nuthatch sitting and looking around at the very top of a tree overlooking the main street at Worfield.
Tortoiseshell butterflies resting on nettle leaves. The insects were only a couple of feet apart. One was resting with its underwings showing. The other had the more brightly coloured upper wings visible, partly directly, partly through bright sunlight shining through the nearer wing.

Swan and nest, Doxey Marshes
Swan and its egg-filled nest on a River Sow island in Doxey Marshes. The nest is overlooked by the main footpath / cycle path across the marshes, but safely accessible only by water.
Sandstone cliff formed by a cutting to make a narrow lane descending to the back of the churchyard at Worfield. There must be a small ledge half way up the cliff face, supporting a little soil. Here a single bluebell plant, flowering recently.
