They look like berries

Yew “berries” are actually modified cones containing a single seed (0ne can be seen peeping out in this picture) covered by a fleshy aril.

The bright red of the aril as the seed ripens contrasts with the continuing green of the leaves as autumn sets in.

Sulfur tuft cluster on a stump

Mushrooms to look out for over the coming months. Sulfur tuft are bright yellow and grow in clumps on wood (including buried wood).

They are one of the few species which should carry on appearing even in the coldest winter months.
