Ramsom (wild garlic) flowers, just about to open. Then seen again, two days later, once the flowers had opened. From a patch of the plants growing by the side of the canal near Aldersley Junction.

The same ducklings seen in yesterday’s post. now two days older. All still thriving, and zipping along the water of the canal just as quickly as before.

The first set of ducklings I’ve noticed this year, pictured what looks like just a few hours after coming out of their shells.

Now seen them several times on different days. Though still very young, they are moving up and down the canal, from the Hordern Road bridge to beyond the water bridge.

Holly blue butterflies have upper wings which are a beautiful blue, but such a fluttery flight that I have never been able to grab a picture of one in the air.

When they land, they fold their wings, only the less vivid underwings are visible.

There’s an area of canal towpath near Compton, evidently directly under a tree used as a perch by birds, where every spring the butterflies seem to feed or to get moisture from the same insalubrious source.

One of the most colourful of regular visitors to garden birdseed feeders, a goldfinch, eating seeds.
