One last set of pictures from the garden of Moseley Old Hall, seen on Heritage Open Day last month. One colourful spot despite the time of year was a border of annual clary, bright in its various shades.
Perton: the resident muscovy duck, on the gravel where the Penk trickles into the lake – the favourite spot for feeding the birds.
The trees in the orchards at Moseley Old Hall are of old species of apples. The fruit are ripening now, some ripeened, fallen from the tree and rotting on the ground.
By the orchard, a knot garden.
A front garden just down the road from the Compton Road allotments. A fig tree, its branches spreading as far as the front garden wall. On the tree, these fruit. They were ripening surprisingly well after this year’s summer weather.
The annual Heritage Open Day, in the middle of last month, and the only property advertising free entry in Wolverhampton was Moseley Old hall, and that only on the Saturday. Wandering round the garden, I noticed a line of pear trees against one wall of the house. All the leaves seemed to be heavily infested with pear rust. There were multiple powdery-looking dull orange raised patches on the underside of each leaf, each corresponding with a brighter orange mark above.
