The “black” petunias in a tub outside one of the houses on East Castle Street, Bridgnorth. In contrast to their appearance on a previous visit to the town, here the underlying purple of the flowers was showing more strongly.
I don’t know how they fold their wings like that, but this is a common plume moth.
I disturbed it, as it was inconspicuously holed up for the day on my bike. It fluttered, only for a short distance, and landed on the top of a garden fence.
Fingers of fungus, bright yellow and curling, similar in height to the fronds of the moss they were growing beside. These were small stagshorn on one of the fallen logs in Himley Plantation.
Waterlilies on the pond in Fowler’s Park. In mid-September, when these pictures were taken, the flowers had not yet opened, though they were beginning to go over on some other waters locally.

White fibrecaps on wood chip mulch
White fibrecap mushrooms – the ones I notice always seem to be growing on wood chip mulch. These were on the edge of an unmetalled road near the Perton estate.

Boletes with bolete mould
Lots of boletes kicked over (they may have had a better chance of surviving if they hadn’t been growing under trees right outside a junior school). Every one, including this small selection, covered in mould, quite likely bolete mould.
