Moth on a plantain in Compton Rough. I noticed the insect when it flew because I got too close to it — then landed on a nearer plant. Tentatively ID’d as a member of the family Crambidae

That sinking feeling

One of the black-headed gull flock from West Park, currently loosing the black head feathers of the summer plumage which give the species this name. Standing in the lake on the submerged section of a fallen branch, looking like it was slowly sinking.

Bee, possibly a common carder bee, busy collecting from the water mint flowers on the pool at Compton Park.

Bulrush on the pool at Compton Park. Normally, there’s only one flower / seed head on each tall stem. This one is supporting four!

While the buddleias carried on flowering, the butterflies continued to come. A selection of the more colourful – tortoiseshells and peacocks.

Lots of plants seem to have grown taller than usual this year. That made it easier to get shots looking up from below to these hemlock seed heads in Compton Rough.
