Goosanders galore on the river, Shrewsbury

A few goosanders on the river near the centre of Shrewsbury earlier this month. Three pairs in the vicinity of the St Julian Friars footbridge. Whenever someone was feeding bread for the birds, these goosanders would join the throng, but miss the bread monopolised by the more pushy gulls and mallards.

As the River Severn rose after storms Arwen and Barra, it was encroaching on the footpaths at the edge of the Quarry in Shrewsbury. A pair of swans took the opportunity to explore the food sources of one of the newly-created stretches of water.
