Mandarin drake, Perton

Mandarin drake, Perton

A spectacular visitor to Perton; a mandarin drake on the smaller pool. I saw it in the middle of the month. A week or so later, I couldn’t see any sign of it.

Elk’s back

Elk's back

The Frankfurt Christmas Market has been back in Birmingham, and back with it is the singing elk (or moose, or probably meant to be a reindeer) on one of the glühwein stalls

Elk's back

It wasn’t singing as it swayed its head when I visited. But I had gone on a cold drizzly morning to avoid the crowds. Nice to see it again.

Christmas lights, Shrewsbury style

Christmas lights, Shrewsbury style

Christmas lights with a difference, on the Morris building by the end of Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury. I have no idea how they relate to the diverse set of businesses trading under the Morris banner.

Christmas lights, Shrewsbury style

They are quite impressive by daylight as was as at night-time.

A bird or two for Christmas

Heron grafitti, riverside house wall, Ludlow

Something a little different for Christmas Day, once again. Graffiti of a heron with a fish in its beak, low on the wall of one of the houses on Temeside, by the River Teme in Ludlow. Often visible for real just a few minutes walk by the river.

Dodoed optical fibre cabinet, Shrewsbury

The BT boxes (I guess) in Shrewsbury have each had an individual painting, perhaps meant to be on a theme of evolution. This one, by English Bridge, is a sight which sadly cant’ be seen for real.

Ravens disturbed by buzzard, Shrewsbury

Ravens disturbed by buzzard, Shrewsbury

A group of four ravens roosting on a tree in the green space by the Porthill Footbidge, across the river from the Quarry, Shrewsbury. Disturbed by a buzzard. They took to the air and saw the intruder off in short order.

River high, Teme, Ludlow

River high, Teme, Ludlow

The River Teme at Ludlow, coming wonn fierecely as it carried waters from storms Arwen and Barra. Views from Dinham Bridge, showing the castle menacing on the cliff above; along the Breadwalk, from Ludford Bridge and a little further downstream.
