The pond at Compton Park, created only a few years ago as part of the housing development on the edge of the park, with the vegetation which is sadly slowly choking it.

Spiky all over

Each seed of these teazles sprouts a long stalk with a vicious hook, for getting caught in fur or feathers to disperse the seeds.

The stems are also covered in vicious spikes. These are to discourage creatures from landing on them.

Tuftie drake over by the island on the upper pool at Perton was behaving rather oddly. I think it was preening, but hard to be sure from a distance.

Most herons are now congregating at one or other of the local heronries. Not this bird, which was by the island on the upper pool at Perton recently. Probably it’s not yet mature.
