Candlesnuff on the hill

Candlesnuff fungus growing on a short tree stump at the top of Compton Hill. By the side of the stump there’s an earth star (possibly more hidden in the leaf litter).

More pictures left over from early autumn. Acorns ripening on an oak, some right next to gnarly galls. Persistent rain meant some had begun to rot.

Collared earth star growing on the earthen bank by the roadside at the top of Compton Hill, right by a tree stump which most likely provides the wood which is feeding it.

There were several of these fungi in the same place this time last year.
