A freezing cold morning, but the clear skies let the bright sunlight warm up the surface of the Severn at Shrewsbury, sending a few tendrils of mist rising.
Mysterious footprints, English Bridge
High water in the Severn had left soft mud on sections of the riverside footpath. Under English Bridge at Shrewsbury there were lots of animal prints in the mud. Many were dogs, but the pattern-matching algorithms at iNaturalist suggest these may be badge.

On a freezing Boxing Day morning, cormorants pausing from fishing in the Severn and preening to oil their feathers before they have another go.
A goosander swimming upstream on the Severn at Shrewsbury recently. The impressionist effect isn’t due to any clever photographic technique, nor to photoshop filters. Instead, it’s an accidental result of the arm supporting the camera also having a crutch dangling from it.
