High Rock, overlooking the Severn valley, is reached by a path which goes through woodland after starting at the side of Bridgnorth Cemetry. Some views from along the way and from the lookout point down towards the river.

Exe estuary 201602 – more birds
A further selection of bird pictures from the end of last month. The dominant male in a flock of house sparrows living in bushes by the footpath to Orcombe Point, overlooking the sea at Exmouth. One of unusually bold dunnocks which haunt the lane by Bowling Green Marsh, And oystecatchers, blackbirds and a preening black-headed gull.

Monkey puzzle flowers high on tree
It isn’t often that a powerful telephoto lens is the best choice for flower photographs. But these monkey puzzle flowers were at the top of a tall, tall tree, as well as being on the opposite side of the busy Tettenhall Road.

Wren between the thorns
Wren perched on the substantial bough of an old rose, not looking worried though it could see me just a couple of yards away.
Dog’s mercury with flower buds which looked like they were about to open early this month. One of the many such plants growing in the woodland at High Rock, the Severnside cliff opposite Bridgnorth.

Wigeon, teal, and in a couple of the pictures a pintail showing how it got its name. All these ducks were on the RSPB reserve at Bowling Green Marsh.
