Larch bolete from above

Larch bolete from above

Larch bolete, a mushroom which grows in association with larch trees. Taken when the fungus was still damp from dew, so the surface was shiny.

I didn’t fancy bending down on the damp grass that morning, so the pictures were taken at eye level. For other pictures of the same species of mushroom from their own level, and showing the cap surface when dry, see this earlier post.

Web on umbellifer, pearled with dew

Spider’s web on the remains of an umbellifer seed-head. The remains of the morning dew have covered the web in tiny beads of water.

Cormorant fishing, West Park

Cormorant fishing, West Park

One of the cormorants recently resident in West Park, repeatedly diving, catching small fish and eating them.

The main picture shows the bird taking off powerfully from a standing start (or a floating start) and heading back to dry off after its meal.

Barley field fox and magpie

Barley field fox and magpie

The barley field fox sunbathing, with a magpie coming to investigate.

Although the bird came quite close, I couldn’t see any reaction by the fox from where I was standing.

Barley field fox

Barley field fox
The barley field fox sunning itself near the pond at the weekend.

A large section of the fur on its hind quarters looked like it had a bad case of the mange. Although the fox didn’t look distressed, it’s probably not very healthy.
