Yellowhammer (facing away), Castlecroft

Yellowhammer, sharing the same canalside tree in Castlecroft with yesterday’s reed bunting. It persisted in turning its back to me.

Vole holes, Bridgnorth and Oxley

Vole hole, Bridgnorth

Holes by the margin of the River Severn at Brignorth, and by the canal at Oxley. Probably the entrances for water vole burrows. Normally the burrows are hard to spot, hidden behind vegetation, with some of the entrances below water level.

Reed bunting, Castlecroft

Reed bunting high in a bush

More pictures I didn’t get round to posting when they were taken. This reed bunting, high on a tree by the canal at Castlecroft, was spotted in April 2015.

Spiders’ webs outlined with droplets of dew on a cool sunny winter morning. These were by the footpath along the River Exe at Exeter last month.

Parakeet in boating lake island tree, West Park, 2015

Parakeet in boating lake island tree, West Park, 2015

Another set of pictures not posted at the time. One of the local ring-necked parakeets high in a tree on the island in West Park’s boating late, back in January 2015.

The bird was one of a pair which were investigating an existing nest hole in the tree with a view to taking it over.

Shortly after these pictures were taken, the tree blew over in one of that winter’s gales. The parakeets moved on, and were perhaps one of the pair which found nest sites in the Smestow Valley / Tettenhall ridge area.

Meadow pipit which was spending time on the pavement near a litter bin, searching the ground for things to eat.
