Mallards on the Alne, Henley

Mallard on the Alne, Henley

Pair of mallards on the Alne at Henley in Arden. The birds were swimming upstream at a pace just matching that of the current, so they were keeping opposite the same place on the banks and opposite each other.

As they swam in parallel, each was watching the other.

Resurfaced drakes, pochard and tufted duck

Resurfaced drake, tufted duck

Tufted duck (black and white plumage) and pochard males, seen just after they resurfaced from diving for food.

The tuftie is one of a small flock, probably wild birds which have found a cosy spot to spend the winter. The pochard is the only one of its kind.
