Male common blue damselfly (the females are paler and harder to spot) resting on a leaf near the edge of the vegetation fringing the pool in Compton Park. The first one to arrive this year.

Female goosander seen flying upstream in the previous post, now landed in the middle of the Severn and being carried by the current floating back in the direction she originally came from. In the final shot, she disappears leaving only a circular wave, having dived for fish.

Goosander drake floating downstream on Severn

More of the goosanders which seem to be staying as summer residents on the Severn at Bridgnorth. This drake was gently floating downsteam, carried by the powerful current. Taken minutes after these pictures of goosanders on the riverbank, the bird here is a different drake.
