I sat down for a short pause on the bench by Wightwick Mill lock, and noticed this moorhen sitting on a nest in flattened reeds directly opposite.

Coot chicks from the same brood as in yesterday’s post, out for an early morning swim. Although they were now big enough to feed for themselves, one was still successfully demanding food from a parent.

Coot chicks on the Avon at Stratford. I first took pictures of them when they had only hatched a day or two previously. Now they were several weeks old and swimming much further from the nest.
