I sat down for a snack on one of the benches along Bridgnorth’s Castle Walk. Almost immediately, this female blackbird began prospecting only a couple of yards away.

One of the deciduous conifers in West Park, bare of needles for the winter, a section of its trunk reflected in a puddle.

Cormorant, in full breeding plumage, shaking its wings on a rock in Minster Pool at Lichfield recently. There’s a lot of pictures in this set – I didn’t realise the camera was in burst mode.

A clump of crocusses just as they were beginning to open. These were growing near the Conservatory at West Park.

Male and female tufted ducks on the lake at West Park. The male’s tuft, normally prominent at the back of the head, can’t be seen because of the angle of the bird. The female’s isn’t normally visible, but is in some of these pictures.

Patches of penicillin mould growing on the skin of a well-rotted apple. The rot had already reached the stage where there were small piles of pale blue spores below, shed from the mould.
