Earlier this month, most of the surface of the West Park boating lake frozen over. Almost all the birds were swimming around on the remaining patch of open water. Just this lone lesser black backed gull standing on the ice.

February flowering from purple heather – this from right at the edge of the cliff at Bridgnorth, by the upper station of the Cliff Railway.

Heron standing still, as they so often do, on one leg as it kept the same pose for as long as I watched. At one point a Canada goose swam by.
