Orb webs, spirals of silk on a framework of radial silk threads, their shapes highlighted by water drops after a heavy night’s rain. These webs were all on umbellifer remains in Compton Rough.

Himalayan balsam, an outlier from a clump growing by the Smestow Brook at Newbridge. The morning sun was dramatically lighting the plant, while leaving the stream in the background in shadow.

Cobwebs (three dimensional spiders webs) covered in tiny drops of water after heavy rain overnight. These were on various plants in Compton Rough.

Butterfly, a large white / cabbage white, resting on the folded-up white flower of a bindweed.

Whisps of the as yet very unripe seed of old man’s beard, which will not start looking like white whiskers until the winter.

Shield bug, seen from below through a dirty window. It seems to be eating the algae which have built up on the window.
