Darts Farm – a permanent farmers’ market including RSPB shop and one of the many RSPB reserves in the Exe estuary – has a field on the skyline planted in stripes of up-market varieties of cabbage and other brassicas. The reed-fringed pond of the public reserve is just over the ridge.

Ice formed at high tide on the Exe estuary, and left behind next to the river bank by the ebb. As the water slipped away, it left bubbles of air in profusion.
