The magpie inkcaps in the Castle Grounds at Bridgnorth, now fully emerged so the black and white colouring of the cap can now be clearly seen.

Young heron which seems to have taken up residence on the gravel at the tip of Bylet at Bridgnorth. Seen on a revisit, a week or so after the pictures in this post were taken.

UPDATE: a second revisit had no sign of the heron in the area. There were also a lot fewer ducks and geese. Perhaps the cooler weather meant not so many people coming to feed the birds.

I’ve no idea what kind of tree these vividly-coloured autumn leaves were on, but it was growing in the garden at Shakespeare’s birthplace, so it’s likely the species is mentioned somewhere in the plays or poetry.

Young swan running across the surface of the Avon at Stratford as it was taking off. Out of the frame there was a second young bird behind which never managed to rise from the water. This one got airborne and flew downstream for a hundred yards or so before landing again.

Yellow hibiscus flower – though the centre is actually a deeper shade of red than the more usual red hibiscus.

Nuthatch at the very top of a tree, calling and looking out.
