Clouded yellow butterfly, a European butterfly. Every year some migrate to Britain, though I’ve never seen them this side of the Channel. This one was exploring the bushes by the car park of a Cassis beach.

Himley Plantation is a good place to visit now the autumn fungus season is going. Managed by the Woodland Trust to encourage wildlife diversity, it supports a rich variety of fungi. This yellow stagshorn is one of many species which lives on the dead wood of the fallen trees which are allowed to rot naturally.
