This year’s West Park swan family when I first noticed them a month ago. Six cygnets, which looked like they had only hatched within the previous day. Guarded by both parents as they fed by the edge of the lake.

Laburnum flowers dangling from a tree on Albert Road. The reddish background colour in two of the pictures is an out of focus copper beech in the next front garden.

Assortment of spring flowers – pictures I’ve just noticed I didn’t get around posting at the time.

The nearest I saw this year to a carpet of bluebells. Seen from a footpath in Baggeridge Country Park, looking across a fence which carried a notice every few yards that it protected private woodland.

There’s also some snake’s head fritillaries, wood anemones, apple blossom and wild garlic flowers.

Greylag goose on the lake at West Park. Flying as it was honking aggresively, seeing off a rival which had encrouched onto what it considered its own patch of water.

Early morning after a cold May night, a caterpillar unmoving and apparently asleep on a hazel leaf.
