Purple crocus flowering on the park wall overlooking Castle Walk, Bridgnorth.

Male greater spotted woodpecker at Northycote Farm. It had come to eat from one of the seed feeders, but was waiting high on one of the surrounding trees while it checked out that everything was safe.

Blackened witch’s butter fungus – a jelly fungus which starts out as a yellowish colour. This was growing on a tree at Beaudesert, Henley on Arden.

Prospecting the soil under short grass for small creatures to eat, a dunnock in West Park recently.

Winter colour: bright red scarlet elf cup fungi growing on a pile of dead wood hwere they have been coming back every year since at least 2010 when I first noticed them.

One of the West Park moorhens burying its head in its food, eating some chapati flower which had been left near the lake.
