Pipe clubs among leaf litter

Pipe club fungus. The guide books have it down as rare, but that may be because they are hard to spot. Until I get down really close to them, they look like the stems of the leaves that fall at the same time of year that the fungus emerges.

City centre starlings

Some of a city centre starling flock, seen on a lockdown early Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago. The birds roost in the trees of Dudley street, but had moved off towards the market to avoid work going on in the street. A count of twenty one may have missed one or two more.

Back for winter, tufties, West Park

A small flock of tufted ducks gather to overwinter on the lake at West Park every year. There’s probably more to come yet, but fifteen or so have already arrived. Here’s a few of them.
