Butterfly in an insalubrious spot

Butterfly in an insalubrious spot

Holly blue butterflies have upper wings which are a beautiful blue, but such a fluttery flight that I have never been able to grab a picture of one in the air.

When they land, they fold their wings, only the less vivid underwings are visible.

There’s an area of canal towpath near Compton, evidently directly under a tree used as a perch by birds, where every spring the butterflies seem to feed or to get moisture from the same insalubrious source.

Fresh spring lambs, Northycote

The farm animal area at Northycote has been closed for some time because of COVID lockdown restrictions. It’s now re-opened, in time to make it possible to get closer to the lambs, not long born.

The turtle moves (but not by much)

The turtle moves (but not by much)

Basking in the sun, standing in the lake on a half-submerged fallen branch, the West Park turtle. It was moving, but very slowly. Perhaps to get exactly the right angle from the sunlight, perhaps to keep its balance as the coot on the other end of the branch preened.
