By the River Mosel in Trier (the Moselle further upstream before it leaves France), the first waterfowl we spotted was an Egyptian goose. Turns out they are quite common on the river, as well as on the pools of such parks as we visited.

Red horse chestnut flowers (May)
Pictures taken at the very end of May, but somehow missed for posting until now: red flowers on one of the horse chestnuts in Bantock Park. Below, the tree they were on and its two companions.

Orbweaver spider on jack by the hedge
Tiny orbweaver spider on the same patch of jack by the hedge as the caterpillar shown a couple of days ago. Even when it was pointed out to me, I could only spot it because its reddish colour contrasted with the green elsewhere.
One of the greylag geese pairs at West Park with their now quite well grown goslings. Not for the first time, I came across them just after someone had disturbed them enough for the parents to lead them all to the safety of the water.
