On a warm morning recently there were several different insects resting on the leaves of the same elder bush as they warmed themselves in the sun. There was a speckled wood butterfly.

A hoverfly.

A fly with bright red eyes.

Autumn leaves so red they seemed to glow, across the path from the pool in East Park.

Horse’s hoof fungus: newish brackets were encircling the base of a tree by the East Park perimeter path.

Teazle seed-heads with the light of the mid-morning sun behind them. They were growing in a meadow on the edge of Baggeridge Country Park.

Humbug snail in a hole in one of the trees in Hawthorn Wood. The other contents of the hole might be a result of its use by a nesting bird.

This less conspicuously coloured dragonfly is, I presume, a female of the same species as the males in the previous post.

She was the only one on the rail.
