Spiders at the centre of their webs

Dewy web, spider at centre

Diadem spiders (also known as European garden spiders or as cross spiders) are found outside or sometimes in sheds and garages.

The females are the ones which build the webs. They are larger than the males, especially at this time of year – the breeding season.

Boat came a bit close

Boat came a bit close

Pendeford Rockin(or the Narrows) is a short section of the Staffs and Worcs Canal which is barely wide enough for one boat at a time. It is cut through very hard rock, Bromsgrove sandstone.

One boat must have been through recently and slightly misjudged things, leaving a scrape of paint on the stone.
