Clump of coltsfoot flowers

Clump of coltsfoot flowers

Another sign of spring finally arriving – coltsfoot beginning to flower. The leaves which give the plant its name (supposedly resembling the footprint of a young horse) don’t come out until the plant has set its seeds.

Barley Field buzzard soaring

Barley Field buzzard soaring

Female of the buzzard pair, regulars over Barley Field, soaring as she rides the field’s thermal to gain height to head off hunting. The smaller male was also around, but staying just too far away for me to get a good picture. As the pair circled, a peregrine also passed over the field, much higher up.

Springtime, frogspawn

A mass of frogspawn in one sheltered corner of the pool in Compton Park. The pool has only been there a couple of years, but obviously already attracted plenty of frogs to the area.
