Common blue damselflies mating on the wing

Common blue damselflies mating on the wing

Pair of common blue damselflies acrobatically mating as they flew across the water of the Compton Park pool.

The male’s abdomen is blue, the female’s green. Both have black bands. The tip of the male’s abdomen is clasped to an area somewhere just behind the female’s head.

Ducklings, getting too bold?

Ducklings, getting too bold?

Big batch of pictures from the last time I saw the thre-duckling brood on the Compton Park pool.

The birds were feeding very near to the footbridge. Were they getting too bold for their own good? Later reports from Geoff on the Smestow Birders webside that there were only two, then one, left. I’ve been back several times since, with no signs of any at all.
