One of the orchids growing in the Smestow Valley LNR. The flowering over, the seeds have begun to develop.

Squirrel keeping low on short grass in West Park, catching the rays of the summer sun.

Knapweed: the flower looks like a thistle; some related species actually have spiky leaves – actually belong to the daisy / sunflower family.

One of the Northycote Farm lambs seemed to have decided that the only tasty patch of grass was right under a dock plant.

More escaped garden poppies – these had flowers which were various shades of purple.

Poppies which I came across in a variety of locations. The large flowers make it likely that the ones growing wild were escaped garden varieties.
