Yellow (rather than the more usual orange) flowered red hot poker. This one was growing in the Den, a small park by Teignmoth prom.

Rock pipit, tiny bird, one of a small group which haunt the area by the outlet of the stream on Wildersmouth beach, Ilfracombe. Its rapid movements in search of food help make the bird visible among the rocks and pebbles.

Cannas thrive in the mild climate of the south-west, perhaps because they were originally a plant of the tropics. The orange-flowered canna was growing in a front garden in Combe Martin; they yellow and the seeded plant in Ilfracombe’s Runnymede Gardens.

Large beetle on the leaf of a rush growing in one of the same ponds featured in yesterday’s posts, waiting for prey – possibly newly emerging dragonflies.

Large bolete mushrooms (precise species not identified) which were growing through short grass on the lawn of a front garden. They appear in the same place every late summer / early autumn, but this year they were particularly large and particularly numerous.
