Growing piglets, Mary Arden’s Farm
Growing Mangalitza piglets at Mary Arden’s Farm. From two different litters, both in muddy enclosures, big enough to be on solid foods. Both sets with the mother sows. Also, in a separate but nearby enclosure, a grandmother sow. A third set of piglets, in a sty with flags for floor, may be Oxford sandy and […]
Mangalitza piglets, Mary Arden’s Farm
Mangalitza piglets, half grown, in the piglet sty at Mary Arden’s Farm. When I first spotted them, they were strolling round their enclosure. By the time I had got my camera out, they were dozing in the sun, right up against the brickwork of the front wall.
The same mangalitza sow and piglets on Mary Arden’s Farm at Wilmcote which featured here, now emerged from their sty. This was a very small litter. The ginger piglet is a sow, and will be kept for breeding purposes. The grey is a boar. It is destined tgo live in comfort for some months, then, […]
Hairy pigs: a mangalitza sow and and her two piglets resting in their sty at Mary Arden’s Farm, Wilmcote.
The second rare breed of pigs on Mary Arden’s Farm, Wilmcote, Oxford sandy and black pigs, or rather some piglets. Not only are the young cute, but they supposedly produce “succulent pork, fine bacon & excellent ham“. On a related note, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust are planning that in the future the supplies for the […]
Mangalitza piglets, Mary Arden’s Farm
I went rather overboard taking pictures of the mangalitza piglets on Mary Arden’s farm. Both the sows on the farm had litters earlier this year. Those of the young still on the farm were half-grown at the time of my visit, but each one seemed to have a distinct personality.
Piglets and lambs, statues
Some garden ornaments, some gatepost decorations (an alternative to the usual lions or eagles) and a couple of bronze statues in the form of lambs and piglets.
Piglets getting bigger, Northycote Farm
Gloucester old spot piglets from two different litters, pictured in adjacent pens on Northycote Farm. The one on grass was running up to me, seeming to be expecting food. Its litter is a few weeks older than the other. The younger one was trying to make a wallow in the powdery-dry soil – both piglets […]
Growing piglets, Northycote Farm
A litter of piglets under shelter at Northycote Farm. Pictured here when only recently born. The other sow’s litter are somewhat older, and have been out in the open air for some time. Earlier pictures of them, too.
Piglets on solids, Northycote
A litter of Gloucester Old Spot piglets with their mother at Northycote Farm. The piglets had grown enough to be on solid food. They are pictured shortly after getting their morning ration of pig pellets. Pictures taken on the same day as those of the much younger litter of the same breed here.
Tiny piglets, @Northycote
Highlight of a visit yesterday to Northycote Farm was a Gloucester Old Spot sow and her litter of piglets which I thought looked less than a day old. Eat, sleep, grow. Other subjects, including lambs and an older litter of piglets of the same species, to follow when I get around to posting them.
