The Sutton Park heather was just coming into flower at the very beginning of the month.

The cinnabar moth is a brightly-coloured, day-flying moth. Like its caterpillar it is brightly coloured, to advertise that it is poisonous. The poisons are absorbed from ragworts, the home and food of the caterpillar.

The red on the head of these coot chicks makes them look more like very young moorhens.

These pictures were taken just a few minutes walk from the city centre.

These teazles, in the Severn Valley Country Park, had a visiting bumble bee.

This plant was next to the one with the bee. Its flowers had almost completely gone over.

A composition in complementary colours.

Quite a few umbellifers this year seem to be having flowers which are pickish or purplish rather than white.

A common meadow flower.

The flowers of this nettle were so abundant they seem to have hidden the rest of the plant.

Red rattle is a semi-parasitic plant. These were on the Saltwells LNR in Brierley Hill.
