Bramble leaves edged with frost

Bramble (blackberry) leaves turn an interesting palette of colours at this time of year without falling off the plant. An edging of frost added to the effect here.

I think I noticed this fly agaric mushroom just a few hours after it had first appeared above ground.

It was growing on a grassy island in the middle of a road.

Cormorant taking off from the Severn at Bridgnorth

Cormorant taking off from the Severn at Bridgnorth

A cormorant was fishing in the Severn at Bridgnorth while I was crossing the old bridge recently. The current was sweeping it closer, until it decided it was too close to humans, and took off to head back upstream.

I only had time for this one picture, and the camera was on the wrong setting so the autofocus couldn’t cope with a fast-moving subject. But I liked the effect anyway.

A mass of old man’s beard hanging over the cliff separating High Town and Low Town at Bridgnorth. It was a cold day, so the plant has a heavy dusting of frost. The steam in the foreground was from Low Town central heating.

Buddleia showing the plant’s ability to grow just about anywhere. This one has seeded itself in the gatepost by the Lodge in East Park.
