Purple loosestrife flowering, these plants growing on the far side of the canal near Meccano Bridge and being reflected in the water.

Sheathed woodtuft mushrooms growing in a troop on the rotting wood of a fallen tree trunk by the Railway Walk near Meccano Bridge. The day these pictures were taken, the mushrooms were dry.

Probably just dry on the surface: this species changes colour when the fungi absorb water, these were very similar to when they had been wet.

Elderberries in the process of ripening. A last few berries are still green, more are turning red, and some beginning to blacken.

An Egyptian goose this weekend. It has recently taken up residence in West Park. Here swimming on the lake, having just been in the midst of a large group of the other geese taking bread which had now run out.

Orb webs, spirals of silk on a framework of radial silk threads, their shapes highlighted by water drops after a heavy night’s rain. These webs were all on umbellifer remains in Compton Rough.

Himalayan balsam, an outlier from a clump growing by the Smestow Brook at Newbridge. The morning sun was dramatically lighting the plant, while leaving the stream in the background in shadow.
