Landscape of agricultural land between settlements in Solihull. In the middle distance two ploughed fields separated by a hedge with a strip of grass on each side. These field margins are a vital refuge for wildlife, animal and vegetable.

Milk caps are a group of mushroom species which produce a “milky” fluid when their flesh is damaged. These were growing in the grass area between the lanes of the Ring Road St Andrews. I didn’t look closely enough to decide which milk cap species they were.

A mixed bag of mushrooms seen locally in the last few weeks, eight different species, all unidentified.

The Egyptian goose recently often at West Park was in among a large group of Canadas, feeding on a grassy area. When someone was spotted bearing bread, the birds walked in that direction en masse, the Egyptian goose managing to keep pace with the leaders.
