This was one of the smaller umbellifers – the plant was perhaps at knee level – and the first flowers were just beginning to open.

Rings of St George’s mushrooms
The weather we have had this year has produced unusually good crops of the St George’s mushroom.
These were growing in rings: something I have never noticed before for this species.
There are three different rings, of varying degrees of completeness, represented here.
All three rings were within a few yards of each other: so close that the fruiting bodies may have been growing from the same underground structure perhaps?
