Wisteria, second blooming

This year’s unusual weather has meant some spring-flowering plants are now producing a second crop of blooms.

This flower was one of many covering the wisteria on the Mermaid on Bridgnorth Road a few days ago, well after its first flowering in late May/early June.

Two Mediterranean dragonflies

Scarce chaser

Hairy dragonfly (above) and scarlet dragonfly (below). There were several of each species by a small pool in the municipal park in the French seaside resort of Cassis.

They spent much of their time standing on the fence surrounding the water.

And didn’t seem worried if one of the other species was nearby, as long as it wasn’t too close.

Mediterranean acorn

Acorn just beginning to ripen on what I guess may be a species of oak which is at home in southern Europe – this was almost on the shore of the Med.

It was still cool, and the bees seemed to be walking, not flying, as they moved from floret to floret.
