Things which can be spotted while walking along by a busy main road. Thesw Tawny milkcap mushrooms were growing on a lawn under trees. The last two pictures are of a specimen blackening with age – I’m guessing of the same species as the others.
Work, rest and play (weathervanes)
Ornate bespoke weathervanes. The carpenter at work was on a building by a road leading out of Cambridge, some way from the college-dominated city centre. The fop examining antiques in the centre of Ross on Wye, quite likely on one of the numerous antique shops in the town. The bowls on the pavilion of the riverside bowling green in Stratford on Avon.
Magpie waving bits of twig
Sinister birds (sculptures)
Assorted metal sculptures of birds which look sinister to me. The Malvern buzzards may be intended as an adult feeding a young bird. But as it catches the early morning sun it looks to me more like an all-out territorial dispute.
The swan on a roundabout at Stratford seems to be stretching itself to prove that it can break a man’s arm. I’ll leave you to decide for yourself about the final image, a “bird” near the river in Cologne.
