Ants and blackfly

Ants and blackfly

Blackfly predating on a foxglove, which was then just about to flower; ants in turn predating on the blackfly.

Ants and blackfly

The ants may possibly be black garden ants, the blackfly possibly cowpea aphids.

Reclusive painted lady butterfly

Reclusive painted lady butterfly

Painted lady butterfly earlier this month – whenever I got almost near enough for a picture, it either fled to the neighbouring front garden, or half-hid behind vegetation.

It looked pristine. Unlikely to be a migrant from the continental mainland. Last year there was abig wave of migration – this may for once have been a resulting British-grown individual.

Unripe ribes in the times of coronavirus

Unripe ribes

Cygnets, lakeside breakfast

Cygnets, lakeside breakfast

Early morning view of the West Park cygnets and the pen, the cygnets eating vegetation near the edge of the lake while the pen ate too and kept watch.

The cob was also on guard, just out of shot.
