Magpie on the shore of West Park lake, giving me a suspicious look as it decides whether it needs to flee.

Earthballs, part of a group of perhaps twenty, growing scattered seeminlgy at random close togeter on a patch of short grass in West Park.

Green shield bug, a much darker green than when sighted earlier in the year. Showing how dark it was by contrast to the hazel leaf it was on, where the colour was fading in autumn.

Three separate visits over the course of a fortnight for these pictures of some white brain fungus growing on a tree stump in front of St Jude’s Church.

Black-headed gull preening as it stands on a fallen branch in West Park lake. The branch it is using as a perch is one of those in the part of the lake favoured by the resident turtle, which has not been seen for some time now – hopefully hibernating.

Shaggy ink caps, sometimes also called lawyers wigs. Most of the ones featured here were recently emerged, but one had a cap which had almost completely deliquesced,
