Clinging on, orange tip butterfly

Female orange tip butterfly spent over a complete day during wet and windy weather clinging tightly on t the flowers of a jack by the hedge plant. During this time, there was some very slight movement showing the insect was still alive. The next morning, it was gone.

Young heron, Compton lock, taking off

The young heron from yesterday’s post, seconds later. Another man coming down the canal towpath, dog on lead. The heron finally decides it has had enough. Takes off, and rises over Compton lock as it heads for a less disturbed spot.

Greater celandine flowers just starting to open. Some still just buds. From a small patch which grow every year by the path alongside the canal at Wightwick lock.
