A smaller group of tufted ducks are still hanging round on the water at West Park when most of the over-wintering birds have dispersed elsewhere. One morning recently, they were swimming nearer the shore than usual.

Honesty. The plant gets its name from its appearance in autumn, when the seed case is semi-translucent, showing the seeds inside. This was growing as a roadside flower on the edge of the wood at Worfield.

A pair of mallards on West Park lake, very determinedly searching underwater for things to eat. Occasionally they would raise their heads briefly for air.

Another of the shade-loving plants of the woodland understorey which times its flowering before the shade gets too complete. When large patches of wild garlic plants are in flower, they can be detected well before they come into sight.
