At the end of September, sunrise is about seven o’clock, so an alarm clock isn’t needed to get up to see the colours of the dawn. In the minutes before the sun actually rises there can be stunning colours in the sky over Wolverhampton city centre as seen from West Park.

This goose and duck seemed to be operating as an ill-assorted pair, at least for the purposes of trying to hustle bread from me as I walked along a towpath.

White plumage in water fowls means they are probably domesticated, though possibly now escapees.
