One common darter returns

Vegetation is taking over the new pond at Compton Park, reducing the amount of open water and making it a much less suitable environment for insects uch as damselflies and dragonflies.

So it was cheering in yesterday’s warm sunlight to see that one male common darter dragonfly had taken up residence. It would occasionally fly around patrolling its territory, but then kept returning to rest on the decking. Tine, and the return of sunny weather, will tell if there are going so be several around, as there have been in recent years.
