Buzzard circling round overhead as it used thermals to gain height. I was sitting on the parapet of the bridge at Wightwick Lock when I took this series of pictures.

Seed-heads from bullrushes growing in the Compton Park pool, with ice crystals formed after a recent frosty night.

Work is going on seven days a week replacing gates on the locks of the 21 locks section of the Birmingham Canal. Sections of the canal drained while the work is done, and a boat loaded with one set of recently removed upper gates.

A pair of moorhens feeding in the fast-flowing weir beside Wightwick Lock, with a pair of mallards doing the same. The other moorhen was one of a pair climbing up a canalside hazel a short distance from the Cannock Road bridge.

Bluetit at the top of a tree by the path by Perton pool, moving round continually but spending most of its time facing away from me.

Otter spraint on the towpath by the canal at Wightwick earlier this month. It was directly under the bridge carrying Windmill Bank over the canal.
